Family Health Determinants

We (Group F) designed this picture based on the concept of determinants of health of an individual and a family during our Family Health Exercise. Patients and families define their families, which can include neighbors and friends.

The components that comprise a healthy family are healthy and safe house environment, adequate access to food and proper nutritional practices, love, support and good communication among family members, access to education and health services along with gender equality.

Members of a family share genetic material, receive almost similar nutrition, and are exposed to identical environmental risk factors. Therefore, they have similar chances of remaining healthy or becoming sick.

Essentially, family and friends create the practical, social and emotional context for self-care, and family support has been linked to better patient self-management and outcomes.
