Almost every medical shows out there have that magical thing called "Defibrillator". One grave fallacy in such TV shows is the use of defibrillator (shock) in patients with asystole (flat ECG line). The ACLS has classified asystole as a non-shockable rhythm. This is because defibrillation in asystole is not only fruitless, but also detrimental, eliminating any possibility of recovering a rhythm. Asystole following electrical defibrillation has an even worse outcome than that in a patient whose first documented rhythm was asystole. But, remember that fine ventricular fibrillation may look like asystole and in such cases asystole needs to be confirmed in several leads.

Asystole is primarily treated with CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscutation) combined with an intravenous vasopressor such as epinephrine (adrenaline).

Anesthetists or Anesthesiologists are thought to be the doctors behind the masks who puts you to sleep before the surgery and wakes you up when its done. But what do they do between these two events? Are all those jokes about them being lazy, dozing off or spilling coffee on their OT dress true? Anesthesiology is more than just putting you to sleep and waking you up. They care for breathing, brain, circulation, kidneys and other important bodily functions of the patient and provide with emergency resuscitation measures to save the patient's life when needed during the surgery. After surgery, they take care for the pain needs of the patients. 

This picture is based on a joke and shows the history of development of medicine. The history repeats itself. The cure for the disease evolved from the herbs and soon the advancement were very rapid and immense. And once again, we have come to a situation where we have started doubting the medicines and we have started believing on alternatives.

The events depicted in the picture is based on a popular joke among medical students which is said to have occurred during osteology viva-voce. The bottom line is that exam stress can severely impair your performance. This implication is not just limited to the medical students. Even the toughest of the students have gone blank, messed up viva exam and have led to failure.

All those big dreams that students enter the medical field with, seems to get shattered with the study load they get in the medical school !

I don't know if there will be any payback of these sufferrings in the future(let's hope there will be).
I have no idea, coz I still am in a medical school ! To be honest, it is my true story.
